Tall Fescue Toxicosis and Management Workshop Craig Roberts University of Missouri Last year, the University of Missouri held its first 2-day workshop on tall fescue toxicosis and management. The workshop was organized by Craig Proceedings (Agronomy) and Rich Crawford (Animal Science); its agenda can be seen in Figure 1.

Fescue toxicosis (FT) results from consumption of tall fescue (Lolium arundinaceum) infected with an endophyte (Epichloë coenophiala) that produces ergot alkaloids (EA), which are considered key. grasses such as tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) and perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) have been found to and culture of the endophyte of tall fescue.

An endophyte is a fungus or bacteria that lives entirely within the tissue spaces of plants and is only visible microscopically. The plant and fungus enjoy a relationship that is symbiotic—mutually beneficial to both organisms.
